Lady Gaga, Pink, Mariah Carey To Appear On New PETA Billboard
The ad — part of the organization's 'Fur-Free and Fabulous' campaign — will be unveiled Tuesday in L.A.

Sure, Lady Gaga's infamous "meat dress" may have drawn the ire of PETA, but that hasn't stopped the animal-rights organization from featuring her — along with fellow icons Pink and Mariah Carey — on a brand-new billboard, set to be unveiled Tuesday in Los Angeles.
It's part of PETA's "Fur-Free and Fabulous" campaign, and, despite the fallout over her Video Music Awards outfit, Gaga was chosen because, as PETA puts it in a press release, "Her anti-fur stance ... has been unwavering."
"Gaga's out-there outfits never include real fur," the statement continued. "Last year, when she wore a dress made of fluffy Kermit the Frog dolls, [she] explained, 'I thought it was commentary on not wearing fur, 'cause I hate fur and don't wear fur.' "
PETA also selected Pink and Carey for the billboard — which will be raised on the corner of Sunset Boulevard and La Brea Avenue in Los Angeles — because of their longtime anti-fur stances. Pink, who recently co-starred with comedian Ricky Gervais in PETA's "Stolen for Fashion" video short, once allegedly called out Beyoncé for wearing fur, and Carey famously donated a pair of full-length Russian sable coats she had received as gifts to PETA, who, in turn, gave them to homeless women at their winter "fur kitchen" event.
With the new billboard, Gaga, Pink and Carey join a list of stars who have teamed with the organization to come out against fur. Last year's "Fur-Free and Fabulous" ad featured Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey.

Oscar-Nominated 'Fighter' Actors, Producers 'Screaming' Over Nods
'They're just as happy if the other one wins,' producer Ryan Kavanaugh says of Amy Adams' and Melissa Leo's Best Supporting Actress noms.

While the teams behind "The Social Network" and "The King's Speech" are toasting their Oscar noms, another group of folks is also celebrating Tuesday morning's (January 25) Academy Award nominations announcement. The cast and crew of "The Fighter" earned seven nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director (David O. Russell), Best Supporting Actor (Christian Bale), and two Best Supporting Actress nods for Amy Adams and Melissa Leo.
MTV News spoke with "Fighter" producer and Relativity Media CEO Ryan Kavanaugh (Relativity fully produced and financed the film) just after he heard the big news.
"When I got the news, I was on the phone with David O. Russell and [Mark] Wahlberg and myself, kinda watching and I think you could hear screaming through each house," he said of their reactions. "The person I'm most excited for is David O. Russell because he really deserved it, he really delivered this package. He's obviously had his ups and downs in his career, as many people have. He really came through on this movie and it's nice that the Academy noticed that for him."
Kavanaugh's fellow producer and the star of the film, Mark Wahlberg, also praised the director and his co-stars in a statement: "It has been such an incredible journey with 'The Fighter' and one that I am grateful to share with David O. Russell, Christian, Melissa, Amy, my fellow producers and the Ward and Eklund families, who are the heart and soul of the film. Thank you to the Academy for this tremendous honor."
Regarding Adams' and Leo's dual nominations in the Best Supporting Actress category, the Relativity Media CEO said the actresses won't be thinking about competition at all.
"It's funny because I think Amy and Melissa, they're just as happy if the other one wins," he said. "They are competing against each other but at the same time, I think they're both really happy for the other one."
Kavanaugh went on to say that although he'd like to go back to bed — Oscar nominations were announced at 5:30 a.m. on the West Coast — he has a long day of work and, later, congratulating to do.
"I've got a pretty full day coming up. I'll stop by Mark's house, I'll stop by David's house, give 'em both a big hug," he said. "[I'll] try and stop by Christian's house although he's probably holed up and won't even turn on the TV until 10 a.m."

Demi Lovato has left treatment.
MTV News has confirmed that the teen star is already back in Los Angeles after seeking treatment for "emotional and physical issues." She entered treatment back in October, leaving her tour with the Jonas Brothers early.
"Demi came back to L.A. earlier this week," a source close to the star told us. "She completed her prescribed treatment and an outpatient program near the treatment facility. For now, she is getting back to her regular routine and spending time with her family and close friends. Demi will continue to focus first and foremost on her well-being."
The source continued: "To that end, she will continue to see doctors in L.A. who will help her work on the issues she confronted in treatment. She is so grateful to all of her fans for their unbelievable support and looks forward to being able to talk to all of them very soon."
Lovato was spotted near a treatment facility in Woodridge, Illinois, around Christmas when she took some time to celebrate the holidays with her family. Lovato entered treatment after a reported incident with backup dancer Alex Welch. The two later worked out a financial settlement after the alleged incident left the dancer injured.
Despite the personal setback, Lovato has a big 2011 ahead of her, including work on a new album, a planned tour and her hit Disney show "Sonny With a Chance." She also took home two People's Choice Awards earlier this month.
"I wish to thank all the friends and fans who voted for me for the People's Choice Awards and the Hot Hits Hottest Teen Stars of 2010," she wrote on Facebook earlier this month. "I want to make sure my fans know how thankful I am for all their love, support and prayers during this difficult time. Thank you for standing beside me through it all."

Usher 'Got A Good Laugh' From Fan Kicking Him In The Face

Usher's club-rattling jam "OMG" may "kill it every night" according to tourmate Miguel, but when the Atlanta crooner hit Madison Square Garden earlier this week, he was almost taken out by a clumsy fan.
When the singer touched down in New York on Monday, he indulged a super amped fan's fantasy by pulling her onstage for an intimate flirty serenade of "Trading Places." As Usher and the concertgoer got cozy on a recliner, she swiveled around to face the crooner — knocking him squarely in his mug with her foot. She began apologizing profusely as Usher briefly paused to collect himself. But the superstar took the strike in stride, quipping, "We play rough in the bed. We kick each other in the face and all type of good stuff."
Although Usher brushed off the blow, the moment did make an impression on him.
"In all my years, this is one of the most interesting experiences. I got a kick out of it!" he told Us Weekly. The singer assured fans that the knock wasn't that bad. "It looked worse than it actually was. My audience and I got a good laugh."
As for the fan, the "DJ Got Us Fallin' In Love" star maintained everything is all good on that front too. "Wherever you are baby, don't feel bad," Usher said. "No hard feelings."
As Miguel has noted, Usher isn't one dwell on drama, whether it's cranking out another hit album or weathering an unexpected hit from a fan.
"He's such a tremendous example of perseverance and determination," Miguel recently told MTV News. "I was there throughout this album, so I've seen the adversity that he's had to overcome perception-wise."

Lindsay Lohan Looks To Expand Fashion Line Post-Rehab

Lindsay Lohan is days away from being released from the rehab facility she's been receiving treatment in for the past few months, and it seems that the troubled starlet is already plotting out her post-rehab future. According to E! News, Lohan is looking to expand her fashion brand.
The website reports that through her 6126 fashion line, which now predominately sells leggings, Lohan wants to start designing footwear. A rep for the fashion line told the site, "She'll finalize everything when she's out." The rep added that the shoes Lohan was mulling over for the line would be "classic, glamorous, timeless with a sexy flair."
An announcement is expected to be made early next year, and the line is expected to debut next fall. A 6126 rep did not respond to MTV News' requests for further information about the report.
Lohan recently found herself in trouble after a worker at the Betty Ford rehab facility pressed charges against the actress for allegedly assaulting her earlier this month. After being fired from her job at the facility, the technician dropped charges against Lohan, saying she does not want "in any way, shape or form to do anything that would violate Lindsay's probation or cause an arrest."
In November, Lohan was let go from an upcoming film project, "Inferno," after she became too much of a liability. "We are withdrawing our offer from Lindsay Lohan," director Matthew Wilder said. "We are currently in negotiations [with another actress] and working out the legalities of bringing her onboard."

Lady Gaga's New Single Is 'So Beautiful,' RedOne Says
Born This Way producer says, 'We get into the studio and suddenly magic happens.'

On February 13, Lady Gaga will finally release the first single off her highly anticipated May release, Born This Way. Sure, Gaga has said she wants this to be the best album of the decade and that it will most likely "piss people off," but little is known about the album's vibe sonically.
Her producer, RedOne, wouldn't spill too many details about the single when MTV News caught up with him at the LA Times' The Envelope Roundtable - Music Producers, but he did let everyone know that the pair have once again made magic happen.
"I think it's too precious to talk about," RedOne explained. "It's so beautiful, and Gaga is very special to all of us — to the world."
Last fall, Gaga blew her fans away when she released "Bad Romance," a catchy, incredibly massive tune including her very own Gaga battle cry. The epic lead single off The Fame Monster has fans and haters wondering if she could ever top herself. RedOne said you don't have to worry about that.
"Honestly, the only thing we do is we get into the studio and suddenly magic happens," he said. "We never overthink, or we just do what we do. That's how it all started. With 'Just Dance,' we did it in one hour. There was no overthinking. Even though I remember when we did 'Poker Face,' people said musically it brought something new to the music and you won't be able to top it, we went into the studio and we did 'Bad Romance' on a bus.
"That explains how we do it, so I can't tell you anything about what's coming but that's what we do. We just get in and do music we love and feel it, and thank God it comes out good."

Tobey Maguire Thinks New 'Spider-Man' Suit Is 'Cool'
'I'm excited to see it in action,' the ex-'Spider-Man' star says about the outfit Andrew Garfield will wear in the upcoming prequel.

PARK CITY, Utah — Ever since Andrew Garfield was announced to star as Spider-Man in Marc Webb's big-screen reboot of the Marvel superhero franchise, all eyes have been turned to Tobey Maguire to see what his response would be. It's not so much that Garfield replaced Maguire as Peter Parker as that Sony, who produces the films, decided that the series would be better served if it followed the teenage version of Parker through his transition — you know, to tap into the "Twilight" teen audience. And thus, the yet-untitled "Spider-Man" prequel was born.
But there never has been any hard feelings between the two Spideys, at least publicly. The first picture of Garfield as Spider-Man hit the Internet on January 13, and it showed a different take on the famed suit than the one Maguire donned in the three Sam Raimi films. MTV recently caught up with Maguire at the Sundance Film Festival, and the former "Spider-Man" star said he has seen the new suit and liked what he saw.
"I thought it looked cool," revealed Maguire. "I mean, I think they did a great job with the design of it, and I'm excited to see it in action."
It's not the first time Maguire has voiced his approval of the "Spider-Man" prequel. During a December interview with BBC News, Garfield admitted that Maguire had reached out to him to congratulate him on the role and give him his backing.
"He sent me a lovely message through a mutual friend," said Garfield. "He gave me his support, and it meant a great deal, of course, because part of the reason I love and have continued to love this character was because of his portrayal. To step into those shoes is no mean feat. It was generous of him to reach out and say something, so I'm thankful."
The "Spider-Man" prequel is filming right now, and is set to be released on July 3, 2012.

WEST HOLLYWOOD, California — Reluctantly crouched behind the red carpet line, drag queens primping and taking their time, the flashbulbs go off and the cameras go up, all of them yearning for their chance at the cup!
On Tuesday night, we caught up with the stars of "RuPaul's Drag Race" as they head into battle to see who will be the top drag queen of season three. Amid the glam and sequins in the air, competition was definitely on everyone's mind, so what better time to find out who RuPaul's drag queens predict will rule 2011: Lady Gaga or Britney Spears?
"With Britney and Gaga coming out with new [albums] this year — it's going to be Gaga," Shangela, of season two, predicted. "Gaga runs the world, so Britney better take a seat and enjoy."
Tough words about a woman who has reached the #1 iTunes spot in 19 countries since her new single, "Hold it Against Me," was released a little over a week ago.
Season three's Venus D Lite, who could give Madonna a run for her money, stated, "I would probably say Britney — only because Gaga has had her spotlight moment."
However, Raja, also from season three, disagreed: "I'm going to say Gaga. ... She challenges everyone and really puts out new ideas, and I certainly appreciate that."
With both artists set to premiere highly anticipated videos in the next couple of months, fans are waiting to see what new creative visions the stars will bring to the world of pop culture.
"I would love to see [Gaga] just be an artist and not just a character," said Sonique of season two. "With Lady Gaga, you can't really expect anything other than something that is going to be controversial."
season three castmember Mimi Imfurst, who arrived on the red carpet in an epic "worldly" outfit, is definitely on Team Gaga: "Lady Gaga has all the creativity that Britney doesn't have, plus all the talent she doesn't have, so Lady Gaga all the way."
When all is said and done, one thing's for sure: RuPaul's drag queens definitely aren't shy about expressing their opinions. Season three of "RuPaul's Drag Race" premieres Monday (January 24) at 10 p.m. ET/PT, 9 p.m. Central on Logo.
Who do you think will conquer 2011: Britney or Gaga? Sound off below!

Having gone from "that Facebook movie" to Oscar-nominated masterpiece, "The Social Network" has run the gamut since its release last October.
Continuing an awards-season streak, the film picked up eight Oscar nominations on Tuesday morning (January 25) — the third most-nominated of the Oscar contenders, behind "The King's Speech" with 12, "True Grit" with 10, and (in a tie) "Inception" with eight — including Best Picture, Best Director (David Fincher), Best Actor (Jesse Eisenberg), Best Adapted Screenplay (Aaron Sorkin) and Best Score (Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross).
Fincher, earning his second career nomination, released a statement that read, "I'm very grateful and humbled by the nominations for 'The Social Network.' I'm incredibly proud of the work of my wildly talented collaborators in front of and behind the camera — all of whom gave the best of themselves and their talents in service to a film about a groundbreaking American innovation. This directing nomination represents the sum of the work of all of us, and I want to acknowledge the vast contributions to this film of all of my good friends and creative partners. The success of our movie belongs to many people, and this nomination is theirs to share."
Sorkin, who penned the dialogue-heavy movie, spoke to "Good Morning America" about the good news, calling the Oscar nods "a triumph," and adding, "I think it was the people I got to sit in the room with. I love the way audiences responded to this movie. They came out and saw it and they loved it. It's a special cherry on top."
In a statement to MTV News, Sorkin reiterated how much he felt teamwork led to his nomination. "My recommendation to anyone who wants to be nominated for an Academy Award is work with David Fincher," he said. "I'm thrilled to be nominated by the Academy, and I'm especially pleased for everyone who worked so hard on the film — it is a triumph of teamwork. I'm honored to have our film nominated in such an incredible year for movies."
Meanwhile, MTV News caught up with Michael De Luca, one of the film's producers, shortly after the nominations were announced. Unlike many likely nominees, De Luca didn't play coy about his expectations. "I set my little iPhone alarm to wake me up at 5:15 a.m.," he told us about Tuesday morning's announcements. "For me, personally, I've always done this as a fan of movies, as a bystander over the years in my career as a producer. But this is the first time I've had a horse in the race, so I was very excited to wake up and it was a real blast."
De Luca, who echoed Fincher and Sorkin's sentiments about the entire cast and crew being "incredibly happy and grateful," went on to say, "We knew what the movie was about. We knew the movie was about basic human emotions and the need for acceptance, the longing for love and friendship and how trying to find those things at 19 is hard enough, but when you're a genius and you're revolutionizing communication and you're creating things that will go on to maintain billion-dollar evaluations, how do you maintain your relationships? How do you change relationships?"
The Oscar nominee also talked about how the modern-day tale featured classic themes.
"Whether you're Copernicus, Galileo or Mark Zuckerberg, no matter what you're doing in your career or professional life, there are basic basic human needs the heart must have to have a happy life," De Luca said. "We knew that that was what the movie was about and we knew that Aaron Sorkin's script seized on that and wrote a story of friendship and what you lose when you win, and we knew that nobody was going to know that until they saw the movie. It was like having the best secret in the world."
Still, while there was mostly celebration for "The Social Network" team this morning, one name was notably left off of the list: Andrew Garfield. Widely regarded as a shoo-in for a Best Supporting Actor nomination for his performance as Facebook CFO Eduardo Saverin, Garfield has earned nods at the Critics' Choice, Golden Globes, and the upcoming Screen Actors Guild Awards; he was ultimately snubbed by the Academy.
"He's an incredible actor," De Luca said of Garfield. "And the ensemble we had in the film was incredible and they're all going off to star in [films] on their own and we're going to hear from Andrew for years to come. I can't tell you enough about his performance. He's a consummate actor.

It's only a matter of weeks until Lady Gaga releases the first single from her highly anticipated album Born This Way, due in May. Producer RedOne recently chatted with MTV News about their latest collaboration, saying it shows the next step in the evolution of the girl formerly known as Stefani Germanotta.
"She's growing all the time, from the day I met her," RedOne said. "Of course, she's an encyclopedia of music. She listened to all the Bruce Springsteens, all the legends, and she has music in her. But on her personal level, she's always growing and growing and growing and becoming bigger and bigger, and her vision's the same thing. She just needed this platform to put all her ideas and learning from what she's been doing [into one place], and she's doing her thing."
With work on the album close to complete, this is a very exciting time for Gaga and him. "It feels exciting. It feels very exciting," he said with a smile on his face. "It's really exciting, and I hope the world is going to enjoy this as much as we do."
RedOne also dished about the album's forthcoming single. "It's so beautiful, and Gaga is very special to all of us — to the world," he said. "Honestly, the only thing we do is we get into the studio and suddenly magic happens. We never overthink, or we just do what we do. That's how it all started. With so much accomplished in 2010, Justin Bieber has certainly set the bar high for 2011. But the teen singer is already gearing up for next year. Bieber will not only release his much-anticipated 3-D flick, "Never Say Never", but he has also teased that he'd like to release an album of all-new material sometime later next year.
His mentor, Usher, thinks that at this point, the sky's the limit.
"As far as music and entertainment, that's the beginning," Usher told MTV News at Sunday's AMAs, where Bieber performed and took home four awards.
"There's so much more in store for the future, or at least there's a ton of things we can do and will, and with the support of his fans who will continue to just grow and grow and grow."
At 16, Bieber has accomplished what few manage with many more years in the music business, but Usher said he wants to ensure that Bieber doesn't stop enjoying it all as his popularity continues to grow and his schedule gets busier.
Asked what he admires most about Justin, Usher said, "His excitement and innocence in it. And I don't mean that in a light way because I think that he's absolutely enjoying every moment of it, as any young man his age would, but in a different way because [of] the hard work that has gone in and led to the dream that has become a reality. And every time you have an opportunity do something incredible, I tell him to do his best and be conscious that what you're doing today should last forever and eternity."

While Willow Smith is the one who made music headlines with "Whip My Hair" last year, it's her brother, "Karate Kid" actor Jaden Smith, who will take the stage at the upcoming 53rd Grammy Awards in a special performance alongside Usher and Justin Bieber, with whom he collaborated on the song "Never Say Never" last summer.
The trio joins a list of new performers added to the show on Thursday (January 20) that will also include another power trifecta made up of B.o.B, Bruno Mars and Janelle Monáe, according to a press release from the Recording Academy announcing the additions to the February 13 telecast from the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Also taking the stage next month will be nominees Muse and Lady Antebellum. They will join a roster of previously announced performers that includes Eminem, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Arcade Fire, Cee Lo Green and Miranda Lambert. It will be the first time on the Grammy performance stage for Bieber, B.o.B, Lambert, Mars, Monáe, Muse and Smith. Eminem, Green, Gaga, Perry, Usher and Lady Antebellum will be making return visits for the occasion.
While 11-time Grammy winner Eminem leads the pack in nominations this year (with 10 nods), Mars has seven nominations, and Gaga and Lady Antebellum are not far behind with six nods each. B.o.B has notched five, Perry and Green are each up for four, and Arcade Fire and Lambert are vying for three awards. Bieber, Muse, Usher and Monáe are each nominated for two Grammys.
No details of the collaborative performances were released, but the Grammy announcement promised a rare, never-before-seen event for the Mars, B.o.B and Monáe segment.
With the addition of Antebellum, all five Album of the Year nominees (Eminem, Arcade Fire, Gaga, Perry) are now scheduled to perform on the show. Additional performers, presenters and special segments will be announced soon.

Kevin Smith's 'Red State' Receives Mixed Reviews At Sundance
'I truly believe 'Red State' the movie is a failure on almost every level,' writes HitFix's Drew McWeeny.

When Kevin Smith's latest film, "Red State," premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on Sunday night, viewers were expecting several things. First and foremost, they were expecting a horror film, which many critics said wasn't what was produced at all. Then they were expecting to see Smith auction off his film, as he has been promising for months, but that did not happen either.
Instead, Smith sold himself the film for $20 and announced he would be distributing it with his production company, SModcast, and would take the film and its stars on a month-long tour around the country, advertised only by word of mouth. The tickets will run somewhere around $60 and will go on sale Friday, January 28. Screenings will start at Radio City Music Hall in New York City on March 5, with a total of 13 cities on the tour. After that, Smith plans on showing the film in theaters starting October 19 (the 17th anniversary of the release of "Clerks").
As if that weren't enough news about the director, Smith then went on to say that his next film, "Hit Somebody," will be the last film he ever directs.
Judging from the response "Red State" had with critics, it is clear that Smith knew he was going to be premiering a divisive film. Numerous reviews have already hit the Internet since the film was screened Sunday night, and most critics thought Smith's film was ambitious if poorly delivered. James Rocchi of the Playlist wrote, " 'Red State' goes from 'Psycho' to Westboro to Waco, changing points-of-view and tone with an abandon some will find invigorating and others will find irritating. I'm glad Kevin Smith wants to make movies that aren't comedies; it's too bad he felt he had to make all of them at once."
Cinematical reviewer Erik Davis agreed, writing, "The problem with 'Red State,' though, is that all the politics, preaching and gotta-slide-them-in-there sex jokes sort of overwhelm the movie to the point that it feels scattered and a little unfocused. Not that there aren't moments that completely paralyze you, but unfortunately those moments become hard to hear and recognize over all the loud, obnoxious gunfire."
Some critics, like The Hollywood Reporter's Todd McCarthy, were more receptive to the film than others. McCarthy suggested that fans will appreciate "Smith's irrepressible irreverence, freewheeling subversion and tweaking of movie genre expectations" and felt that his "aggressively profane script" worked when it used "startling twists on scare film conventions while also taking the U.S. government to task for its simplistic use of terrorist threats as an excuse to do anything it wants."
But other critics, like HitFix's Drew McWeeny, took Smith's film and subsequent "purchase" after the screening as a direct insult. McWeeny wrote, "I truly believe 'Red State' the movie is a failure on almost every level," adding that to him it felt as if "Smith doesn't even seem to try." He also felt that Smith had set himself up so that if a reviewer dislikes his film, he'll just attribute it to the failure of movie critics. He added that Smith's fans would show up in flocks to see the film anyway despite (or perhaps in spite of) what critics say, and that's precisely what Smith is banking on.
