Set in a dystopian world in the country of Panem, where North America once existed, "The Hunger Games" is the story of Katniss Everdeen, who is chosen as a "Tribute" to represent District 12 in the annual Hunger Games. Part twisted entertainment, part government intimidation tactic, the Hunger Games is a nationally televised event in which Tributes — one teenage boy and girl chosen from each of the country's 12 districts — must fight one another until only one survivor remains.
Pitted against highly trained Tributes who have prepared for the Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she's ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.
Lionsgate will release the film on March 23, 2012. Before then, MTV News has a ton of "Hunger Games" content for you to check out. We have full interviews with Lawrence, Hutcherson and several other castmembers, commentary on the film's trailers and the latest breaking news on one of the year's biggest films.
